We rented a cabin through Pine Knot this month and I have to say it was a perfect experience. The cabin was spotless, incredibly well equipped, cute and cozy.... a lovely fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, the bedroom upstairs sported a wonderful vaulted wood ceiling and a deck. We spent a wonderful hour at the end of each day in the back deck hot tub...totally private, snow heavy pine branches all around, icicles on the eves and fences, and us cozy warm in the lovely tub, a little table I assume was so our glasses of wine were in easy reach! We had our dog who had never experienced snow, so that was fun too. It was also a pleasant stroll into the cute down town. This company is so responsive and helpful, and the cabin was everything we could have hoped for. We will definitely do it again:)
Pine Knot Guest Ranch has been the greatest cabin-stay experience that we have ever had! Not only is the location the best that you can get (basically in the Village), the cabins are clean and well kept! My family has been staying at this guest ranch for years and my husband and I had our first experience there. We are so appreciative of their kindness, helpfulness, and their accommodations. Our son loved the Llamas and all the fun space to walk around and explore. We love it here and HIGHLY recommend!
We were looking for a nice quiet pet friendly getaway with our two dogs and Pine Knot exceeded our expectations. It's hard to find places that will accept pets. We stayed in cabin 16 over the Christmas Holiday and can't wait to go back. The cabin was clean, updated with cable and Wi-Fi access. Our dogs enjoyed playing in the snow on the property and visiting with the llamas. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. A few short walk took you to downtown Big Bear Lake with ample restaurants and shopping. We highly recommend Pine Knot Guest Ranch to anyone with or without pets looking for a nice quite getaway.
"LIKE GRANDMA'S HOUSE" (without the grandmother)
Admission: I am a compulsive internet researcher when it comes to making plans.
Having never been to Big Bear and I researched just about every website's reviews on places to stay and Pine Knot Guest Ranch had the most consistently favorable reviews.
DISCLAIMER: Big Bear's accomodations are only resort-ISH.
This is a resort town in a grandma's house sort of way. You know how your grandma's house is always cozy with nice things--they are just about thirty or forty years old. That is the feeling you get at Big Bear when researching the available accomodations.
So I say, embrace the coziness! My beautiful girlfriend Emily E and I did and had a blast!
Pine Knot is AS advertised on their website and is a nice little gem. We stayed in Cabin 12 (which is above where you check in) and it fit the bill. It came equipped with a full kitchen (to include pots, pans, salt and pepper), old-school tv and tv/vcr combo. When you check-in they have a bookcase full of VCR tapes (!!!, pretty cool, kind of like handling dinosaur fossils!!!) and DVD's of which you can take as many as you like.
They also have....drumrollllllllllllllllllllll----LLAMAS! Seriously, they have two pet llamas in a small barn/shed at the rear of the property (pictues to be uploaded soon). You can go back there and pet them if you like...they also have bunnies you there you can check out. However, don't be surprised, they also have two dogs (that are fenced in) that like to bark at you. I get the sense these two yelping canines feel a certain kinship with the llamas and once they know you are just there to pet and visit, they chill out. One of the dogs has two different marble-colored eyes which is weird, but as long as you don't stare at them too long you should be good.
Other pluses are that you can walk to The Village from the Guest Ranch or it is just a 30 second drive by car (probably a two minute ride by llama...not that I would endorse that type of thing).
All in all, I would definitely stay here again. It is about a 5-10 minute drive from here to the slopes. And unless you are staying somewhere that is AT the slopes, I don't think there is a better place for the money (our room was about $120 with tax. ESPECIALLY, if you are staying for a few days...there is a VONS about five miles up the road where you can stock up on food and cook right there in your room.
HAIKU REVIEW
Just like Grandma's house
but with llamas-serious!
and also bunnies!
You can't beat the privacy of the Pine Knot Guest Ranch. Check in was speedy and the cabin immaculate complete with chocolates, candles, skylights, jacuzzi, 2 beds, kitchenette with utensils & coffee pot and guess what, 2 mini refrigerators. We had Cabin 15 with a great view of pines and gardens. Yes, the llamas and rabbits are fun to stare at. But the real beauty of this place is the proximity to the village, like in your car about a minute to restaurants, shops, and the lake. We will be back.
We recently stayed at the Pine Knot Guest Ranch in early November, we had a wonderful experience there. This is such a great place for families with children. The owner, Gloria was very pleasant, warm and helpful. We stayed in cabin #15, the furnishings and decor are a bit outdated but still charming, everything was A+, the cabin was very clean and it had central air and heat which is nice when it is 10 degrees out. My nephew and my son were able to take the llama's for a short walk around the neighborhood which was a great experience. We would definitely stay here again. I think all of the cabins have either a kitchenette or a full kitchen so that definitely keeps food costs down if you are staying for more than a day or two. I researched quite a few cabin resorts, hotels, lodges, etc. and this Pine Knot Guest Ranch was definitely in the top 3. The location is also perfect - it is about 1 minute to the village area and about 3 minutes to the safeway, stater bros. etc. Also, there are free video, board game rentals in the office which were helpful. I think my nephew and my son had the best time here, it was so much better than staying at a generic hotel without charm. If you are visiting Big Bear with a family, definitely stay here.
We really enjoyed this place. Private, cozy, and quaint. Walking distance to the shops and eateries. About 5 minutes to the ski resorts. Can't wait to go back again!
Pine knot is a cool little place. The cabins are clean, cozy and affordable. Walking distance to the Village. My only issue is that I stay here quite often but the management never seems to remember me. Perhaps I'm not memorable? LOL! Anyway, I'd recommend this place. Nice touches. Makes a ski weekend almost affordable.
I stayed there last week (March 2010) with my boyfriend and his 8-year-old son. We skiied Snow Summit. I found and booked Pine Knot online and had to pay in advance, so I was nervous about what I was getting for my money. It did not disappoint. The cabin was roomy, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The location was perfect -- a short drive to Snow Summit and walking distance to the village. The kitchenette was well stocked and we used it every night for dinner as well as the grill on the deck. The jacuzzi tub was heaven and I used it every night after skiing. The shower and bathroom were roomy and clean. The 8-year-old loved the sled hill and barn animals.
The bf and I were looking for a spot to take a quick vacay and decided to go to Big Bear....and bring the dog. We found Pine Knot after some online searching for 'dog friendly' spots. We stayed in Cabin 19 - which was perfect for a couple. Cozy one bedroom with a fireplace and jacuzzi tub, and a little kitchen area. (The room was also clean of dog hair - which is always a concern with dog friendly places. The room was very clean!) The woman who checked us in was very friendly and we loved the idea of old school vhs tapes! She also genuinely liked dogs, which we loved.
Even more suprises follow - there's a small sledding hill on the property, it's only a short walk away from an awesome sledding hill, and within short walking distance to the village. We can't wait to stay here again next time we visit Big Bear!
Stayed there last week and just loved it. The bed was sooooooooo comfy! We found it really hard to get out of bed. Very clean and close to the village. Looks small from the outside but nice size place. Small kitchen but big bathroom and bedroom. I can't wait to go back!
Stayed here over the weekend for some mountain biking and boating. We got the cabin right next to the owner that sleeps 12. There was only 7 of us, but it was only $5 or $10 more per person for the extra room. We got a hot tube, pool table, 2 big screen TVs, and 3 bathrooms. This place was awesome. I almost didn't want to leave the cabin.
I would like to stay here in the winter, but it a bit more pricey then. If we can get a big enough group it would be worth it.
I had a great experience here, but it was the combination of good weather, good friends, and great accommodations.
Easy to like this place, why?
1. Right next to all the shops and restaurants off of Pine Knot Ave!
2. Right next to the trails to go hiking, mountain biking and off roading
3. Accomodations are nice, they have new amenities, like flat screens, pool tables and jacuzzi!
4. You can bring your pets!
5. The service is great, they tell you exactly what is going on that weekend, how to get discounts, where to go, what to do when youre in town!
6. They even have a Llama petting farm.
ok if this is not enough I dont know what is. Ive stayed at other cabins in the area and this place brings you right back to the 21st century. We WILL be back!
Last week my fiance and I decided that we should skip town and spend a few days up in the mountains with good ole Mother Nature. Simple enough, right?
Not quite, since we decided that we could not in good conscience leave our monsters (a.k.a -the dogs) at home while we spent time hiking around and enjoying ourselves... that would just be wrong! So, exactly 24 hours before our intended departure, I logged into yelp and researched all petfriendly lodging options and then narrowed the list down to three. After calling them all, I decided to go with Pine Knot Guest Ranch.
Upon arrival, I was hoping for the best yet preparing for the worst. So to say that I was pleasantly surprised and relieved when I opened the door to cabin #19, would be an understatement. The place didn't smell like hell or dirty dogs, or smoky musty cigarettes, or mold, or mothballs, nope thank goodness... it smelled honest to goodness CLEAN! and after getting a good look around I was pleased that it looked clean as well....albeit the decor is a little outdated, but the property is well cared for obviously.
Here's some of the things we liked:
*These cabins are off the beaten path. You are practically in the woods, and not off of some busy main street.
*Just a couple of blocks walk to the Village.
*Our dogs were allowed to roam around, play, chase balls.... Off leash!
*The Llamas were very friendly, and it is my understanding that they love to take walks..... maybe next time ;)
*Free wi-fi
*The cabins seem to be fairly private, we were never really aware of our neighbors.
*Our cabin had it's own private outdoor grill, porch, jacuzzi, fireplace, kitchenette, heater, as well as AC... I believe most, if not all of their cabins do.
*Prices were very reasonable, we payed approx. $104 per night + dog fees of 10 or 20 bucks per dog per night.
So, if you are wondering ... Hellz Yes, we will be back! And soon! We had such a great time. Big Bear is absolutely beautiful and Pine Knot Guest Ranch is THE PLACE to stay whenever we're in town... (especially when we bring the beasties).
Need a break away from the normal hustle bustle of city life? Have dogs with you? Then look no further. The Pine Knot Guest Ranch is the place for you!
Took a few days off to get away from city life and did a ton of research looking for cabins that are pet friendly and we came across a lot of good reviews about Pine Knot and they did not disappoint! The cabins are spaced far enough from one another to give you the privacy you want. They are very comfortable and clean inside. When you check in they give you information about the town and also information about places you can take your dogs. They will even give you towels for your dogs if you head out to the lake.
There is a big field behind the cabins that gives you enough for the dogs to runaround in and there is also a Llama and bunny petting zoo outside which is great for kids.
Pine Knot Guest Ranch is just two blocks away from the village which is a plus because you get to have a little privacy to make your stay even that much more enjoyable.
I highly recommend staying here whether you have pets or not. It is cozy, charming, relaxing, romantic, and right near the heart of Big Bear Lake. You won't be disappointed that you did.
Between a heavy schedule these past few months and very stressful holiday season, my husband and I desperately needed to get away and chill out for a couple of days. Trouble is, we've got two big Australian Shepherds, and if I want to have a stress-free getaway, putting them in a kennel or worrying about whether they're torturing a pet-sitter doesn't help.
So, I did a quick search for pet-friendly places in Big Bear, and that's how we ended up at Pine Knot. We ended up in cabin #20, which is a GREAT choice for a couple because it's a single-room cabin above the rest, so it's very quiet (you access this one from Cameron Ave., which means you have a separate entrance from the rest of the ranch). The cabin was *spotless* and well-appointed, including a big-screen and DVD player that got a fair bit of use as we'd brought some videos with us. Nice jacuzzi tub (that we never got around to using--maybe next time), and a wood-burning fireplace. My Aussies loved that there was a decent-sized open space behind the cabin where they could romp in the snow and chase a ball. There's also a fridge and microwave, so if you're in the need for some serious R&R, it's possible you could stock up on food at the market and then never leave the cabin as long as you're cool with microwave eats. The on-site sledding hill and the cute llamas in the barn just add to the charm.
BTW, this was within walking distance from the village, and just far enough from Snow Summit that you can be there in a few minutes, but you don't have to worry about being in the middle of some Animal-House style party scene.
Highly recommended, especially if you like to vacation with your canine kids.
While I haven't stayed at this location - I can say my experience on the phone for Pine Knot Guest Ranch was better than half a dozen other places.
We had a last minute change with our cabin that was booked months ago. The previous guests left the hot water heater on and it exploded. This put my party of 4 into a last minute scramble.
When calling to see if there was any Availability, Lisa was very kind on the phone to look. She was very sympathetic to our situation and wasn't just worried about the "sale." Unfortunately they were sold-out, but Lisa recommended I call the Resort Association to see if there was anything left on the mountain.
Thanks Lisa! hopefully I can stay at the Pine Knot Guest Ranch in the future.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE coming to Pine Knot Guest Ranch in the gorgeous Big Bear Lake! We discovered this cozy spot about a year ago and have stayed at Pine Knot twice now.
As many before me have stated, they are super dog-friendly and it makes for a stress-free and homey vacation. On arrival, we were provided with towels to keep our pup's feet clean, plenty of poop bags, and a blanket to put on the bed for our dog to sleep on. A dog owner's dream! Your dog can be left in the cabin alone (well behaved dogs only...I'm assuming) and they aren't strict about leash use. Heidi, my mangy mutt, absolutely loves exploring their grounds and gets quite cozy inside the cabin.
Pine Knot is not only great for dogs, but humans too! Every cabin has a jacuzzi tub (in the living room of course!) and a fireplace. Cheesy, but AWESOME. And I will gladly admit to using the jacuzzi during both stays. The cabins we've been in are clean and comfortable. You have all the privacy you would need and the grounds are quite quiet. We've stayed in Cabin 14 and 20. Both are lovely! Cabin 20 did seem to have some water-heater issues...it made a continuous knocking sound...which was slightly annoying at night. But the water was plenty hot and I have no other complaints. They also provide cable and free wi-fi which is more than what I have at my own place. =) On arrival, the owner also lends out DVDs (for free)...I love the small town generosity.
One of the best parts of visiting Pine Knot Guest Ranch is its prime location. It is right up the road from Big Bear Village. You can easily walk down to the lake or through the village. Perfect for an afternoon stroll through the shops and restaurants. (Saucy Mama's Pizzeria is by far my favorite stop in town!) There are also some hiking trails that are close by and within walking distance from Pine Knot.
As with most places in Big Bear, Pine Knot Guest Ranch definitely has a cheesiness to it. The decor is a bit outdated and the teddy bears in the cabins make me laugh. But there is no other place we'd rather stay. It's convenient, cozy, and extremely accommodating. I have no doubt that we will be back again soon.
Yes.. it was great.. I've searched yelp reviews to find a cabin which is cozy and neat.. And my dicision was right. My husband and I went to big bear to celebrate our anniversary and this place was the right one for us. We stayed #20 which was in hill top so we had the privacy and nice views..
You can trust the pictures on the website, because they were exactly same..
I really love to go there again..
Some friends and I wanted to go four wheeling, and decided between the cost of a cabin and the cost of camping, it might be worth it to check out cabins. The first place I called- Big Bear Vacations- Tried to rip me off (see my review there) so I was rather guarded when I called Pine Knot Ranch.
Since we were going off roading, I knew we would have more then the two car limit- I called Pine Knot, and Gloria had no issues with accommodating our extra car. She even allowed us to park it for the day after we had checked out on Sunday. Her husband was super nice when I checked in and helped me find everything we needed to find that evening. Awesomeness.
We got the Chalet- the cabin about 1/4 of a mile from the Pine Knot premises. It was great!! It was clean, quiet and beautiful. It was so nice! Big enough for all 5 of us, and had a great kitchen. It was very clean, and their towels are AWESOME. So large, plush and soft!!! They had plenty of blankets, dishes, cooking utensils, and other supplies.
The cabin was awesome, the customer service-fantastic, and we will stay here again. Thank you, Pine Knot Ranch!!!
We stayed with Pine Knot on 6/19/11 and really enjoyed our stay. We stayed in cabin 19 which was really cute. The management down to the cleaning crew were more then friendly and they welcomed our dog. The had a nice little gift for our Bingo and offered a blanket to put on the bed along with any towels should we decide to take Bingo to the lake. This is a very pet friendly place to stay. The Llamas and Bunnies were really cute and a nice little addition to the property. Plus is it a very short walk to The Village for some shopping and lots of places to eat.
My one and only problem that we had was the bed. It was way too hard for us and therefore we didn't get any sleep the night we were there. So if you like a hard bed, have a pet and are looking for a nice place to stay you won't be sorry. Believe me I am picky and I would come back in a heartbeat if not for the bed.
Cabin 14, dear readers. Cabin 14. The photos are TRUE!
I don't often give out five-star reviews. I can always find something to complain about. (I have deep fantasies about being hired as an all-around nitpicking consultant. A 21st-century Gilbreth.) Pine Knot Guest Ranch deserves every star. We were so delighted with our recent two-night stay that I'm tempted to make a standing annual reservation.
(If you're a Seinfeld fan, you won't be able to avoid repeating "Cherish the cabin!" after your visit. Fair warning.)
We arrived a few hours later than planned due to all my dire prophecies about little Ford hatchbacks not making it up the big mountain finally coming true. (Another story.) It was almost after-hours, but we rang the bell and the manager (owner?) came right over with her friendly dog. Easy-peasy.
The cabin comes with firewood for one night. Six dollars will get you another bundle, but if you have a smartphone you can use the Yelp offer for a free bundle. The office has a full bookcase of DVDs to borrow at no charge.
One thing I wondered about was how secluded the cabin would be. It's not advertised as private (that would be the honeymoon cabin), but Cabin 14 is nicely situated to only have one other cabin ("Cedar Creek") for company, and the porches are situated so you won't see anyone else unless you're trying. On the porch is a round grill, two extremely comfortable padded loungers, and two chairs. I stretched out with my Kindle and listened to the seasonal creek burble, sometimes turning to watch little birds hop around and take sips from the water. (Not to mention the wild rabbits that roam the area.)
Photos don't do Cabin 14 justice, impressive considering how I was sure that the online photos were too good to be the whole story. The cabin is spacious and every chair I tried - and I did the whole Goldilocks test - was cozy and curl-up-able.
The kitchen came with paper towels, potholders, mixing bowls and other basic items, which I didn't expect. No problems playing house here. (The love seat by the dining set would be a great spot to flop out and watch my husband cook - ha!) Nor did I expect the basket of hot chocolate packets and coffees. Also waiting for us were two glasses and a glass of Martinelli's sparkling apple cider. Clearly someone has put thought into both comfort and design.
The bathroom is equipped with a glassed-in shower, where I'll focus my token criticism. My husband is 6'4" and had to stoop to wash his hair since the showerhead only came up to his neck. But everything else was so charming that we easily laughed about this and moved on.
The main room, the one with the incredible tub and stuffed bears and quaint fireplace, is as lovely as pictured. Little chocolates are arranged on the side of the tub along with Gilchrist and Soames bath salts. (More are available at $2/box.) Votive candles sit in glass holders on three of the tub corners (the fourth has two fluffy towels), and a small torch is in the basket by the fireplace along with other pyro-amenities.
The jacuzzi was great: plenty of hot water, off-switch inside the tub (otherwise use the 15-minute timer on the opposite wall), and I can testify that two very overweight people can fit in jussssst fine.
If you are allergic to or don't like feather pillows, be sure to talk to the staff. Our main pillows (under the pile of rather substantial decorative pillows) were feather-based, but I think the spare in the closet wasn't, so I'm sure options are available.
The television is an enormous flat screen, and the remote is straightforward in operation with good coverage from both sides of the bed. Built into the wall is a radio, with speakers around the cabin. I wonder how old these cabins are since our radio had a cassette slot and a phono setting. (Retro!) There is also an alarm clock and a phone.
We had trouble accessing the wi-fi and thought it might just be slow or weak, or it might be us, but when we found someone else outside also trying to get a better signal, we called the after-hours line for help. Sure enough, the router just needed a reboot, which Pine Knot was happy to do despite the late hour, and they called us back to make sure all was well. (It was.)
Be warned: skylights! The tree coverage means it's a beautiful, dappled natural light that adds to the beauty of the bedroom, but we're the kind of people who like to sleep late and who, at home, have black-out shades on the windows. No complaints here, but if you're planning to stay late at the karaoke bar in the Village, keep Mr. Sol's gentle wake-up call in mind.
The llamas (Willow and Dolly) and the bunnies (Honeybun and Twinkie) are in a barn a short walk across the main area (cabins form a circle) and around the corner. They are all placid and seem to be treated well. You can feed all of them and arrange to walk to the llamas.
I can't imagine a better place - just down the road from the Village! - to stay, and I can't wait to stay again.
This is my favorite place to stay in Big Bear. They are pet friendly and the rooms are really cute! The staff also is really friendly. I like the jacuzzi cabins and the rooms have kitchenettes. I appreciate how they make the rooms welcoming with chocolates and a bottle of cider. Also they are walking distance to the village.
LOVED IT! Its 3 blocks to the main street in Big Bear Lake village. When you are in your cabin, we were in 15, its like you are in the middle of the woods. The owner Gloria was nice, accomodating and even called us as we snuck out early on our departure day to go hiking, to see if everything was ok- when a place treats you like family - i am hooked! The Ilamas were a treat, next time want to walk them. And the bunnies are so adorable. And yes dog-friendly and all dog owners while we were there were really responsible. the kitchen was well stocked and so was the bathroom, and in room jacuzzi!
My husband and I stayed here in the late Spring. Wonderful place, as many other reviews have said. Our dog enjoyed it and the three of us felt very welcome and at home. We mentioned finding it on Yelp and the dog stayed for free. We loved being just a short walk from town, but in a very quiet location. We will definitely be back!
Snagged a buywithme voucher for 2 nights for $130 which was such an amazing deal for the experience we had. Checked in around 4:30 when we had said we would be there around 2 and the lady in the office was right there to greet us. These cabins are so cute and cozy. Stayed with my boyfriend for 2 nights in cabin 17.. Jacuzzi and fireplace inside! It was so relaxing and we don't have a single complaint. The location is so close to the village and many restaurants. We boarded at snow summit two days and the drive to the resort took less than 5 minutes including time to park. The office has DVDs, puzzles, all sorts of entertainment. Our entertainment was relaxing though.. The jacuzzi tub was great and they say they give you firewood for 1.5 hours but ours lasted over two nights! Great vacation and we will stay here anytime we come to bear! Highly recommend!
Great staff, great location, great amenities, and a fair price!
My family just had our first stay at the Pine Knot Guest Ranch and we loved it. My six-year-old son loved the sledding hill / snow play area behind the cabins. He also loved watching TV from the jacuzzi in the room! He has a good life. :) We all appreciated their dog-friendly attitude - it's so nice to bring our dog along to share in the fun.
The location is great, a VERY short drive to Snow Summit, and walkable distance to the center of town.
The price was very reasonable considering all the amenities - free firewood for the fireplace, free sparkling cider, free bath salts for the jacuzzi, and a library of free VHS and DVD rentals that actually doesn't suck! :)
I have to make special mention of the owners/staff there. We had an incident on our first night where the firewood popped and shattered one of the glass panes of the fireplace. They fixed it while we were out skiing the very next day and didn't charge us for it (not that it was our fault). They handled it with consummate professionalism and I want to acknowledge it here.
The only thing I would have dropped a star for was the lack of a stove - there's only a microwave, fridge, and freezer. We brought steaks and other meats to cook and ended up wasting them. However, given the rest of the stay was so excellent, I'm going to leave it at five stars.
We are already looking forward to our next visit!
I stayed here in late December with my husband and dog. Check in was easy and the gentlemen who helped us was friendly and thorough.
We stayed at Cabin 14 because I read on Tripadvisor that the private patio makes a good "holding pen" for pets or kids. The cabin is located towards the front of the property. No street noise whatsoever, so don't let that concern you. When you step through the door, you will be in the kitchenette area. The kitchenette is small, but has everything you need: sink, fridge, cooking supplies,a small breakfast table and a sitting area with a loveseat. Then moving into the bedroom, the photos from the website are right on and in fact it is much more spacious than you might think. High ceilings, lots of natural light, bright and cheery. It is carpeted in all areas except around the exterior door and the patio door/tub area. The bathroom is larger than you would expect because there is a long entry that has a wardrobe mirror housing the water heaters. Then you have a nice stand up shower area, sink, etc. It is "jack and jill" style where you can go in from the front or from the bedroom.
The freestanding fireplace is wonderful and boy, it gives off heat! We also enjoyed the jacuzzi tub. Loved the kitchenette and stocked up beverages and made a few meals there.
The property itself is very nice. There was snow on the ground and we walked out with the dog every day, visited the llamas and enjoyed the scenic solitude.
I highly recommend the property for it's location near the village (walking distance to the village, slight uphill on the way the back). Also the privacy. It is so nice not to have any neighbors walking by (for your own privacy but also so the dog doesn't go berserk). My husband and my dog, Jack enjoyed it very much. (Check out pictures posted.)
My husband and I stayed here for this Valentine's Day weekend. Beautiful hotel! I loved the location because it was in a residential neighborhood and away from the busyness of The Villege. It was very quiet and peaceful. The hotel has free DVDs to watch, bunnies, and lamas. You can take the lamas for walks too, but we opted not to. We fed them though. Our cabin was great; it was like an apartment. There was a refrigerator, stove, plates, cooking utensils, coffee, tea, complimentary cider and chocolates, a jacuzzi tub, a wood burning fireplace, and even a cute stuffed bear on the bed. Very romantic cabin #14. The only bad thing was the bed is very firm and the pillows weren't comfortable. I suggest bringing your own pillows. Otherwise, it's a wonderful hotel!
All I can say is WOW! This place was amazing... from the moment we got there, the staff was welcoming, the atmosphere was great and the overall experience was a 10 out of 10... and by looking at the other reviews, it seems I am not alone in my praise!
Just went this past weekend so it was very cold... good thing we had a nice fireplace AND a huge jacuzzi in our cabin (#16) to keep us warm... there was also complimentary apple cider and chocolate waiting for us as well. They provide a small bundle of firewood, which they said would only last a night, but we used it all weekend and still had some to spare!
They have two llamas on the property and we were able to get close enough to feed them... which was really great and provided great picture ops! haha :) The area is also in a great location... you can easily walk to the "village" which is where a lot of cute shops and restaurants are in Big Bear. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone... couples, families, big groups, small groups.
The cabins are well worth the money and if you make your reservation early enough in advance you don't feel like you are spending a ton because you only pay half when you make the reservation and the other half when you arrive.
Can't wait to come back to Pine Knot and cabin 16 soon!
I was so happy with our stay at Pine Knot Guest Ranch! The cabin was CLEAN and STOCKED full of amenities including sparkling cider, bath salts, hair dryer, DVD player, etc. It was hard to stay here for only 1 night, my BF and I wanted to extend our stay. The location of Pine Knot is very close to "The Village" with restaurants & shopping. We had so much fun feeding the llamas & playing in the snow area behind the cabins. I am so glad that we stayed here, and would definitely stay here again! ONLY gripe D: the jacuzzi in the room didn't get HOT, it was more of a luke warm... almost borderline cool. Fireplace in the room was fantastic! We were provided with plenty of firewood. We stayed in Cabin 19.
We found this gem through Groupon and was perfect for the price we paid. Gloria was an excellent host and very accommodating. The cabin (we stayed at 17) was clean and had everything we needed for our 3 night stay, including a sheet and small hand towels for my dog.
I took one star off because although the two skylights were nice to have, we kept waking up at 6 a.m. because the room became too bright and we had to move to the smaller room.
This place is great! Great price...great location. Cute cabin and so wonderful for our three dogs. We had such a good time. Check the jacuzzi before you unpack though, as ours didn't work. We didn't try it until the last night, and it was the end of May, so I'm not taking a star away for that. In the winter, it would make a big difference.
WOO HOO!!!! This place is greeeeeaaat!
Everything you could ask for and more! A nice walk to the Village, private cabins, warm room, warm water, free wi-fi, affordable, pet friendly (although I do not have any furry friends) and great service.
We stayed in cabin 17, yes...there are skylights...don't go to bed so late and it is actually a great way to wake up! I never felt cold in the room (however, it was June) and there were plenty of blankets if I did. The jacuzzi tub was very nice and it was also nice having the little kitchen area.
Loved the llamas and the rabbits....so neat.
I think I just found my regular spot when I go up to Big Bear.
We were lucky to score the last cabin this past weekend due to a cancellation. Very clean cabins. Its a short stroll to the village. We travel with our two small dogs and it is a great place for people with pets.
Lisa was more than helpful with any questions. We will not hesitate to stay here again
My wife found this place. Nestled up in the woods and just walking distance to the village town. These cabins were cozy and so relaxing. Our #14 cabin had a jaccuzi and a back patio, a great get away from our busy lifestyle in Vegas. Our kids also had great time. The llamas, dolly and willow. Our kids fell in love with them, from feeding to walking them. The bunnies, marshmallow and Twinkie made my kids stay more fun. Looks like we are going back to cabin #14 for the winter season.
Clean and cozy. This place is a good value and pet friendly.
Just got back from a five-night visit to Big Bear, where we had the divine pleasure of staying at Pine Knot Guest Ranch. This year, my partner's birthday happened to be the day before Thanksgiving, and we knew a few things.
1. We wanted to go somewhere cold and off the beaten path.
2. We wanted to stay in a cabin that gave us some privacy.
Through the magic of our good friend Yelp, I selected Pine Knot Guest Ranch based on the fact that the cabins are stand-alone and off the main strip while still being walking distance to the village. We hadn't planned to bring our cat, but based on all the reviews raving about Pine Knot's "pet friendliness" we decided to give it a shot. When I called to make reservations, Diana was very friendly, helpful and not at all surprised to hear we wanted to bring our feline friend.
Upon our arrival, Larb checked us in, gave us a blanket for our cat, let us take as many movies as we wanted from their stash and even gave us a bottle of champagne in celebration of Sid's birthday. At first, the cabin seems a bit over-the-top: a giant jacuzzi in the middle of the living room, cider and champagne glasses, chocolates, candles and fresh flowers, but it ended up feeling like home. We used the jacuzzi almost every night (no end of hot water), built ourselves a fire with the provided firewood, watched movies (VHS and DVD player) on the flatscreen TV (which, in Cabin 16, at least, you can watch from the jacuzzi itself - ultimate decadence) and enjoyed visiting and feeding the llamas and bunnies.
Because we had to leave our cat indoors for much of the trip, housekeeping was never able to come, but the cabin was furnished with trash bags, dish soap, drying rack, sponge and serveware so that we were able to keep the place tidy. We enjoyed walking into town (especially to the movie theater) and can recommend Himalaya for good Indian and Tea & Coffee Exchange for breakfast or lunch. Because we were staying over on Thanksgiving night, Diana even sent me an e-mail with restaurants that would be serving special holiday meals. :)
My one note is that the shower was pretty small. As a couple who enjoys "conserving water," this was a no-go in Cabin 16. On the upside, as mentioned before, there wad endless hot water and, for being a "pet-friendly" hotel, I didn't feel like I was vacationing in a dog park. I am not an enormous lover of dogs, and the cabins were clean, didn't smell, were free of dog hair and I never heard any barking or saw more than one or two dogs being obediently walked outside in the common area. In the end, none of us wanted to leave when the week was up. That little cabin felt like home!
We just spent 4 days there, it was very relaxing. My girl and my puppy had a great time without having to leave the property, as they have a large play area with swings, lammas and rabits... The cabin (17) was clean, comfortable and had a brand new BBQ outside.
The cabin is in walking distance to restaurants, main street and coffee shops.
Cannot wait to go back!
This is the 2nd year in a row that we've stayed here for christmas. If you've got a small family and want at least a shot at a white Christmas without breaking the bank, this is the place.
Both years we've lucked out and there's been snow storms that prepped the place for us before we got there, so there was plenty of snow for our kids to get hours of use out of the sledding hill. The best babysitter we've ever had is that sledding hill. Sure I go out there and build some olympic quality sledding ramps. But when we want some alone time, that hill kept my 8 and 11 year old busy all day on more than one occassion.
My kids LOVE jacuuzi tubs, so the fact that there is a full, 2 adult capacity jacuuzi tub, front and center when you enter the cabin was a huge plus for them...for us too. After sledding and playing in the snow all day, the traditional jacuuzi warm would happen everyday. The fireplace also kept my son's attention. He loved to play in front of it to stay warm. Not sure if I should be worried about any pyro tendencies, but he loved it.
The layout is tight, but it's everything you should need for a family trip to the snow. King sized bed for the adults, while the little ones shared a twin (full...I'm a guy, I have no clue, but it's smaller than a queen) in the other room which also shares the kitchen and entrance to the bathroom. If you're expecting the Ritz...GO TO THE RITZ. It's a cabin for crying out loud. If you need more than a jacuuzi, fireplace, sledding hill, and freaking llamas and bunnies, then you need to stay elsewhere.
The location is also very nice. It's about 5-6 blocks right up the street from Big Bear Village. If you're headed up there in the winter, bring the right clothes and this walk will not be an issue. If you're not the walking type, there is a large parking lot down in the village where you can dump your car and walk around. Snow Summit is about 5 minutes away, and the snow play tubing park is about 10 min away.
Couldn't be happier with our new Christmas tradition which includes Pine Knot as our Christmas cabin.
My total is 3.5 stars but I will round up because my other half is just smitten with Pine Knot (I think because the cabins are stand-alone and mostly secluded from one another).
This was our second wintery stay here (cabin 19 this time) .... Our cabin ran out of hot water during one of our jacuzzi fests, so we called Gloria and she checked on our heater and it started working again. But she said she didn't do anything to the heater which was kind of odd. Regardless, it was like 30-40 minutes with only cold water, kind of a bummer after snowboarding all day. Also two nights prior, the shower would go from ice cold to scalding hot, about 6 times.. that was also a let-down.
Oh yeah... the comforter and pillow cases should be replaced.. they are kind of 'old' feeling and the teddy bears have holes in them - I imagine from past dogs. I get this is a cabin, but I also believe in keeping things up to par / maintenance and replacing things when they get old. A lot of the light bulbs were also out. Not sure if that was intentional to save on electricity or if they had been overlooked.
Previously we stayed in Cabin 12, which is connected to the office, but it offers a full kitchen - so it has it's pros. Cabin 19 only has a TINY fridge and TINY sink... we did some cooking out in the snow with our BBQ haha. Also used a microwave a bit more than we normally do at home. It all worked out but next time we will choose one of the other cabins with a kitchen. If you are staying for at least 4 days, it adds up to keep eating out and microwaved/bbq'd food gets old after several meals.
A couple other cons are that there aren't really any 'deals' during the holiday season nor any lift packages. They charge $6 for extra wood when I think a free bundle should be given nightly. It was like $200 per night plus taxes/resort fees, which adds up.
They are good about snowplowing when a storm hits, and like others have said, it's a decent walk to the village (just wear lots of clothes if you go late at night).
OMG! Just got back from a short but sweet stay at Pine knot ranch. Absolute perfection! Could not believe the value for the money; King sized unbelievably comfortable bed, HUGE jacuzzi tub, free bottle of champagne for our anniversary, plus cute chocolates, a skylight above the bed to fall asleep under the stars, flat screen tv, free firewood for the awesome fireplace, cute kitchenette with mini fridge and just about anything you would need to prep a simple meal (no stove but has a microwave), bunnies and llamas, an awesome sledding hill, dog friendly (my poodle LOVED the place, and the snow), and a fantastic staff. Had the pleasure of meeting the woman running the place and she was so great, obviously passionate about making your stay perfect. I thought it was a nice touch that they have a whole bunch of movies/dvds/vhs/board games to borrow for free. I didn't feel nickled and dimed one bit, loved the value for the money. I will never go to another cabin site again, the Pine knot guest ranch has my (and now my friends and family's) business for life!
My boyfriend and I stayed here last weekend, and were very pleased!
He is always running late, so the front desk staff stashed our key for us. The cabin was very charming, and equipped with a fireplace, tv, and my favorite part... a sound machine! The jacuzi was a little on the small side, but relaxing nonetheless. The pricing was less than what you would pay for a hotel room, and included more ammenities. We were disappointed that we could not find the barn to visit the llamas and bunnies, but we will figure it out next time....
We will definitely be back!
My husband and I were here 2 weeks ago on our honeymoon. We will definitely be back. We absolutely loved it here. Location is fantastic because it feels very private and remote, yet it is walking distance of the village. The owners are very nice and very accommodating and they seem to have thought of everything for you. We were in cabin 17 and it was beautiful. All of the cabins have a front porch with chairs and they all have very large jacuzzis right in the middle of the cabin. They have the most comfortable beds with huge down comforters and a ton of fluffy down pillows. They even supply you with dishes in the kitchenette and will give you big fluffy robes to use for your stay there. They are also very affordable. Bottom line..if you are going to Big Bear, you cannot go wrong by staying here.
Great location. Walkable distance to the village. We stayed at the HIDEAWAY which is privately owned but run by the Pine Knot folks. Hideaway has outdated bedsheets, carpet and utensils but okay for a day or 2. We stayed 2 nights last weekend. The toilets, hot shower and all that worked fine. My daughter loved the Llama and bunnies in their yard.
Me and a large group of friends stayed at two of the Pine Knot homes this past weekend.
I plan many trips for this large group and I was sooooo happy with the service and quality of rentals. We stayed at the Hideaway and the Grandview. The Grandview was very modern and had an awesome game room downstairs with 3 couches, a pool table, fireplace, and bar. The upstairs was a little cozy for a group of our size but there was plenty of space throughout the house. Personally I stayed at the Hideaway which I assumed I would hate because of the wood paneling but instead of dark and dated it just looked woodsy. The only issues I can pick on is the beds are really soft and the tub very slippery. Other than that everything was clean and comfortable.
The Ranch itself is adorable and very easy, short walk between the little hotel cabins and the home rentals. Gloria was absolutely fabulous and even let us check in early without issue. It's a short walk to the Village which was very convenient.
This was a perfect combination of dog-friendly and village-close, and we did not sacrifice quality of accommodations.
We will definitely be returning.
(If you like biking I recommend renting a bike and looping the lake. It's a beautiful intermediate-level ride, about 20 miles depending on the route.)
My husband and I stayed here earlier in the week because of a deal we got on Living Social.
We stayed in cabin 19 and was worried because it looks so small from the outside as the other cabins look almost double in size. Once inside I was surprised of how spacious it was, despite the misleading exterior. The cabin was clean, and was surprised to see everything I would need for a few days without having to run to the office for more. Was impressed that there was a dish drying rack, soap and sponge, extra trash bags, and nice (not the super thin see through) toilet paper.
The hot tub felt amazing after a long mountain hike, and the llamas are an added bonus. I would highly recommend Pine Knot Guest Ranch and my husband and I are already planning our next trip.
The short review: Nice, homey, stand-alone cabins in a great location. Each cabin includes wood-burning fireplace, jacuzzi, and flat-screen TV. I will definitely stay here again.
The long review: I had never been to Big Bear before, and wanted to bring my dog up for some hiking before the snow started. The couple who manage the property live nearby, so you need to call them in order to check in, but they come down promptly. It is a little jarring when you first enter the cabin, because you are greeted by a very large jacuzzi in the front room. However, the jacuzzi placement works, because this way you can look at the fire and/or watch TV while soaking in the tub. The cabins have everything you would need, including wood for the fireplace (enough for a couple of nights, but you can purchase more), a butane lighter to get the wood started, dishes, glasses, coffee maker, and toaster in the kitchenette, and even dog bowls under the sink in the bathroom. They also have free wifi if you need to check back in with civilization.
The location of the cabins is ideal for me--they are within walking distance of the Village with all the shops and restaurants, yet they are far enough off the beaten path to be very quiet and tranquil. Being close to the Village also means that you are centrally located for all of the various hiking and biking trails that surround Big Bear Lake.
One unique thing about this property is that they have a couple of llamas and bunnies. You are allowed to feed and pet the critters, and you can even take the llamas for a walk. It wasn't a big draw for me, but it would be great if you have young kids.
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here, and I am planning on making a fall trip to Big Bear an annual vacation...but only if I can stay at Pine Knot Guest Ranch.
Still love this place (cabin 19 will always be our place).
We brought the dogs this time, and Gloria recommended a pet sitter for us go drop the dogs off at while we went about the town and had dinner. I'm so glad we did that. The dogs has fun, and I didn't have to be paranoid that the dogs were destroying the cabin while we were out.
We had a lovely weekend in Big Bear. Cabin 16 was very warm and cozy with plenty of room for 4 people and a small dog. Lisa made sure all of our needs were met and gave us a personal introduction to the llamas and rabbits. The ranch is close enough to the village and lake to walk but far enough away to be quiet and relaxing.
My family and I really loved Cabin 17. The worst part of the trip is that we don't want to leave.
The beds were very comfortable. The tv swiveled to either towards the jacuzzi, the bed or fireplace. We are very impressed. If you want a romantic get away and you have to bring the kids this is perfect. The second room was so convenient. The kitchenette ( small fridge, coffee maker, faucet, microwave, essentials, table).
The cabin was clean and no trace of dog hair :).
Our boys ( 7 and 4) had a great time playing outside, petting the bunnies , and feeding the llamas. We were lucky to have some snow and the air was crisp and sunny.
I enjoyed the patio furniture outside.
We had a wonderful time and we can't wait to come back.
Next time I will bring more snacks.
The set up on the jacuzzi was great ( candles, chocolate, sparkling cider, bath salts, perfection )
I don't want to leave !!
Checking in was easy and the woman behind the front desk was incredibly friendly. My boyfriend and I stayed in cabin 12, which turned out to be right above the check in area. It's the only cabin with a fully equipped kitchen and we made full use of it. Being able to cook a delicious hot meal - warming up your whole flat and making everything smell amazing - was one of the best parts of our mini getaway. Easy and plentiful parking and some extras in each cabin - bath salts, a bunch of towels, apple cider, and not a sight of a bug anywhere..
Add a comfy bed, lovely fireplace, and two friendly llamas (one named Dolly llama, hoho) and I'm sold.
Pine Knot Ranch really is such a deal. I would definitely come back.
Loved everything about this place! Came with my little family and everyone had the best time playing in the playground and visiting the llamas and bunnies. The cabins are quaint but fit all the amenities nicely. We came mid-week so it was very quiet and just perfect for a few days away from the urban jungle. The comfy beds, fireplace, in room jacuzzi, and especially the proximity to the village and ski resort make it a great value.
They even allow pets for a reasonable price! We will be back during the snow season!
Good news! They were able to get the dye off their shams and emailed that they would be refunding the $80. It was nice that they attempted to get it out again and let me know about it. As I mentioned in my previous review. The place itself is really great. I loved the vibe from beginning and the rooms were very nice. I will definitely consider coming back especially since they did make the attempt to get the dye out and refunded me. Yay!
My wife and I stayed here just earlier this month (March '14). We stayed in Cabin 20 and were very pleased.
The cabin is at the top of the property and is very private. It has a slight view of the lake. The cabin has a two-person jacuzzi tub right in the front room, which faces a flat screen t.v. and a fireplace. The tub worked very well. It takes a little while to fill, but it's a big tub. The room also had a king sized bed, a small kitchenette with a sink, coffee maker, toaster, and various kitchen utensils, and a small bathroom with a standing shower.
The ranch is about an eighth of a mile from the village and has very easy, almost walkable, access to several restaurants and shops. The ranch also has a couple of llamas and bunnies that are fun to go see.
My only complaint was that the room needs a little fixing up. There is some water damage in the bathroom and a couple small holes in the wall. The decor is very outdated and everything looks quite old. Nothing that disrupts the room or your stay. For the price and convenience, it is well, well worth it.
Where do I start?
We read countless reviews of almost every place in the Big Bear area trying to decide where to spend our 4 day trip. Pine Knot Guest Ranch was one of the first places we read about, almost all positive. Every time, we came back to having this place at the top of our list.
We wanted something that felt a bit like home, and would allow us to cook a few meals there, be able to lounge about, and most importantly, bring our dog!
This place met all of our needs and then some. We felt right at home from the moment we checked in. We stayed in the Bungalow home for 2 nights and moved over into Cabin 15 for a third night.
We stayed during mid-week and took advantage of the online discount offered for the off-season mid-week stay. The owners (recently took over the property a few weeks ago) were super friendly from the start. Ensuring that anything we needed was taken care of right away.
We found the property to be very unique in the sense that it offered a little of everything in terms of privacy whether in your cabin or the vacation homes, yet you could still just stroll up the yard and enjoy a nice park-like setting and mingle with other guests. This was a HUGE plus for us as we brought our dog. We didn't have to worry about taking her down to a grassy area somewhere far.
The llamas and bunnies are a cute and surprisingly enjoyable aspect of staying here. You can go up to visit them anytime you want. We even went out for a late night stroll one evening to look at stars and went up to the barn where low and behold, the llamas were out to greet us even in the wee hour of the night!
The proximity to The Village is perfect. We walked to eat in town almost every meal except for one day due to poor weather. No fault to anyone. And when they say walking distance, they really mean it. Unlike some places where "walking distance" is a trek down a major road for a out a mile. Here, it is literally 2 blocks down a residential street and you're right there! It's perfect for an early morning stroll before the town wakes up.
We even had the luxury of being able to enjoy brand new mattresses in our cabin. Like I said, the owners are well on top of maintaining every little aspect to ensure that every guest has a superb stay. On the day of our arrival the weather was cold and rainy/snowy. While checking in the owner told us he had gone down to our cabin about two hours prior to us arriving to turn on the heater and warm the place up for us. When we unpacked and settled in, we had a nice toasty home right and ready!
We are already making our return plans to come back and stay here. If you are looking for something off the path, but not too far away, with a sense of privacy in a simple home-like setting, this is definitely the place for you.
Love this place! They have new owners and they we're just as accommodating as the last owners. The llamas are still there. I've stayed in cabin 18 the hideaway and the little bear. I've been pleased with all of there cabins. I will definitely come back and stay again. I'm really happy that the new owners are just as nice as the previous owner.
Clean place, friendly staff, cozy cabin. This place is perfect for a romantic getaway. We will 100% be returning.
I recently stayed at the Pine Knot Guest Ranch with my husband, kids, and dog. The cabins are great and perfect for a small family. It was a good set up to sleep in one bed and have the boys in the other room. I would not recommend the cabins for couples though as the wall is very thin and does not allow for a lot of privacy if that is what you need. The new owners were very friendly, attentive and accommodating. Our dog even got to come with us for a nominal fee and could stay in the cabin while we went to the town. The location is great as it is close enough to the village to walk, yet far enough away to be semi-secluded. You get all the benefits of an individual cabin and the conveniences of a hotel rolled into one. The llamas and bunnies are a great attraction for the children- they found it very interesting. Next time I am in Big Bear, we will definitely be staying here again!
This place has the cutest cabins in Big Bear. We went to Big Bear this weekend for a family get together. We stayed in the Cedar Creek cabin. The cabin was super clean, smelled great, and was stocked with everything we needed for a fun weekend out of town. All we needed was our food and we were set. The kids loved feeding and petting the llamas and the cute little bunnies. They even got to take the llamas on a walk! They thought that was the coolest part. There is also a playground for the kids to go swing and play around on. There is plenty to keep kids entertained. The front office even has games, books, movies (VHS & DVD) to borrow to keep them occupied. It is a short walk to the Village which made it nice to not have to drive and find a parking spot. The new owners are all very friendly and helpful. They definitely go above and beyond to make sure that you are enjoying your stay. The fireplace was nice and a bundle of wood is provided to get you started. The kids liked sitting by the fire and watching a movie at night. The cabin also has free wifi and Direct TV which was nice so my dad could catch up on the Nascar race. ;) We will definitely be back in the near future! We got to tour one of the rooms which had a Jacuzzi... we will be back to stay in one of those rooms for sure. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a little getaway. It is totally worth it!
Amazing experience from start to finish. We have been to Big Bear before however this was our best visit yet. Thanks to Pine Knot Guest Ranch. the owner Larry was very friendly and helpful. We were very pleased with cabin 18. parking was right outside the cabin. We had our own grill and also a wood burning fireplace in the cabin. we were given plenty of firewood and could purchase more if needed. the cabin was very clean and just darling inside. lots of cute bear themed decor. Great touches like sparkling cider and chocolates by the jacuzzi upon arrival. kitchen has utensils, dish soap, sponge, coffee, tea and hot cocoa. All the basics helped (even a can opener and spatula for grilling. ) all of this Made it comfortable and easy for us. Location is prime. Quiet area yet close to the village. We walked to the village and lake which was so convenient. We did not need to drive as we could walk to restaurants, movies and souvenir shops in very little time. The barn with llamas and bunnies were a hit with our daughter. There is also a little playground which they are in the process of updating. Very clean pet friendly place. We plan to stay here again and make this a family tradition. P
Loved it! Great experience from start to finish!
My husband and I decided to take the kids on a quick trip to Big Bear and tried the Pine Knot Guest Ranch. Great idea! Wish we could have stayed longer but we're booked again for a longer stay in July. Yay! The great location offered us the feeling of being secluded (what a Big Bear cabin should be) while just a walk away to all the village has to offer. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They gave great tips on where to eat. :) We used their advice and walked down to dinner and dessert at night and breakfast in the morning.
The kids loved the movie selection available (they also have board games we hope to use next visit) at the front desk and then being able to watch the movie fireside while relaxing in the in room jacuzzi. They also played in the common area, swang on the swings and visited the llamas and bunnis (so cool).
The cabin itself was very clean and had that comfy home feeling. Excited for our next trip!
We stayed in one of the smaller cabins, 15. The bed was amazingly comfortable, and the fireplace was perfect during a cold stormy afternoon. The business is family-run and you can tell they really care that you have a great stay. Staff was available anytime, even after-hours.
The cabins are so clean and well-maintained. The AC worked well for the summer heat. The kitchenette was great, tons of fridge space. And there were grills outside for actual cooking if you want to. The picnic area outside was adorable and there are llamas to feed and pet!
Incredibly pet-friendly, our dog I think fell in love with the llamas. We could barely drag him away from them! Tons of room to run around for pets and kids. Perfect place for a romantic getaway but I think it'd be a great family spot too. Highly recommend!
I happily stay here every time I'm in big bear and not sleeping in a tent.
I think there's been an ownership change recently and they're remodeling their cabins because cabin 20 looked like it just got a fresh coat of paint!
My biggest complaint was always about their old throw pillows and blankets on the bed. They had that old crusty feeling. but when I stayed here a couple of months ago, the stuff in cabin 20 felt new. I don't know if they changed it out or just super laundered it but it was awesome! I actually got a super great night of sleep.
They're dog friendly, walking distance to downtown area but far way enough that you don't feel like you're surrounded by tourists. There are a bunch of sweet llamas and they have sleds that they've let us borrow when there's snow. Pretty great if you ask me!
More of a general note on big bear: you can hear everything in the mountains so if someone is raving in their garage at 2 o clock in the morning a couple of blocks down, you might as well get out your glow sticks because that sound is going to carry all the way to your open window.
We stayed in the Hideaway vacation home last month. I can't wait to stay there again. Everyone was so nice and the location was great. It was just a couple of blocks up from the main part of town. We were able to ride our bikes pretty much everywhere.
The home was perfect size and had everything we needed. This one didn't have a jacuzzi tub but we didn't mind that. It has a full sized kitchen with everything you need. It had a bbq in the back yard too. It, however, was too big and a little run down. We asked for a different one and they immediately gave us a better one to use.
They have movies that you can borrow at the check in area. Nice playground area and animals. Our kids are 12 and 15 and still loved it. Our dog had fun too. :) We love Big Bear. Such a perfect little get away.
Cabin 18: loved it! Stayed with my husband and 2 small kids early sept 2014. I'm a little OCD and this place was spotless even my house slippers seemed hardly worn during my two night stay there. It is so kid friendly. I think of everything and pack accordingly but this place had so much to offer; hand lighter to ignite fireplace or grill, good sized mini fridge with 2 ice cube trays (were full of ice!) sharp knife, silverware, cutting board, wine opener, can opener, dishes, coffee maker (with good tasting coffee) kitchen hand towel, paper towel roll, placemats, TP, shampoo/lotion/soap. And I am a safety freak and carry my own CO2 detector/alarm but guess what, they have one!!!! I mean, this place was above and beyond anything I could have imagined. Even the tea light candles around the jacuzzi were battery operated. Safety first! Love it!!!
The a/c will freeze your butt off if you want, the hot water will set the right temp in the jacuzzi, and the king size bed fit the 4 of us.
Really amazing!
Oh they also had a nightlight in the restroom and of course, I brought one but was pleasantly surprised to find the owner(s) have thought of everything. It's as though I was the one who set this cabin up! They even have a binder with local info/ cabin info and all the rules and regs.
They have a DVD player, VHS player and direct tv! And wifi! And they have so many movies to borrow free of charge at the front desk- even had the Lego movie (current).
I can't say enough wonderful things about this place. We even met a neighbor and HE was awesome and shared fishing tips.
I must have been dreaming because this place was too good to be true.
The llamas and reviews are what got me there in the first place. I'm definitely going back! My kids loved it and came home with 2 stuffed llamas (sold at office 4 a great price ) and Mami felt clean and safe. Good times!
Tip: bring a portable propane stove and make your breakfast (any meal) outside. They have a grill but no stove; however, with our little stove we were able to enjoy pancakes and eggs for breakfast. BTW it's chilly in the mornings and night so bring a light jacket even during summer sept 2014. And due to the forest fire threat level open fires aren't allowed but propane stoves are OK! We made s'mores the nonconventional way this time but as soon as that threat level goes down feel free to enjoy the community fire pit this place has to roast some weenies or make s'mores. :-)
I've been many places in my life and times. I give my 5+ star to few and far in between.
The worst part of our stay was having to leave. We had planned to be leaving after the first night but couldn't leave without another night. It seems to be contagious for others have said the same.
Customer service is second to none. I was analyzing which overnight lodging was the best. I called Pine Knot Guest Ranch first and spoke with Philip. He was very polite and professional. I called five other overnight places to be fair and chose Pine Knot Guest Ranch. It was a smooth transaction.
We were even more delighted when we walked into the office and met Larry, the owner and his other son Steven. I knew I was visiting with good family folks. That means more than some may think. It's beyond what you pay in money. It's also that value of knowing you found the best place at a lower cost than other high quality lodging. You have that trusting feeling. Priceless nowadays.
The lodging is top notch. The jacuzzi, wifi, movies, direct tv, comfortable clean bedding, fireplace, outside barbecue, landscaping, freshness, cleanliness and great decor were just the tip of the iceberg. A large playground, illama's, bunnies and bonfire/open pit added to the carefree relaxed atmosphere.
Many of the local shops plus Vons, Statler Bros, Family Dollar, DIY, and K-mart are just minutes away.
Eateries, arts and entertainment are walking distance. Not to mention the Alpine camping, hiking, biking, go karting, sliding, horseback riding etc etc.
Then there is Big Bear Lake that is walking distance and more and more water activities.
Though I am not related in any way, somehow I feel like family now. I guarantee one thing. I WILL be back!
Do yourself, family and friends a favor.
Call and speak with Larry, Steven or Philip at :1-800-866-3446,
You'll then know what I meant by.....
"good family folks".
Respectfully submitted,
Dino
My husband and I stayed here and absolutely loved it! The property is so cute and easy to get around. The cabin was very cute and clean. We fell asleep looking at the stars through the skylight above the bed, and had the fireplace going too. Best night of sleep I've ever had! The llamas and bunnies are fun to visit too. We will definitely be back.

4 days and 3 nights with these lovely people. Stayed in the Little Bear vacation home. Cant wait to go back. Will definitely stay with Pine Knot
We were on a whirlwind tour through SoCal and I was itching to get some mountain time in with my husband and three little kids. We only stayed a night (which was far too short!) but it was a superlative experience. We stayed in cabin 15.
Ownership change in February of 2014. The new owners are really bringing this ranch to the forefront. The day we were there, they were working on upgrading the wifi to be much faster for all guests, which should be a cool amenity. The owners were just really friendly and genuinely cared about the quality of our stay.
Mattress on the main bed was super comfortable; the girls were knocked out within minutes on theirs. Each side of the cabin has a window you can open if you're like us and like the experience of being cold in the cabin but warm in the blankets. Each room is fully stocked with firewood for the night and it's simple even for us "Dude Ranchers" to get a crackling fire going. It was fun to play with the animals and the large playground during the day, and at night, we sat in the jacuzzi with a crackling fire, hot cocoa and sparkling cider while watching Doctor Who on DirecTV.
Grounds are an easy walk to the Village, and we got Indian and pizza for dinner after driving the 3 minutes back from Boulder Bay Park. If you're wanting to cook your own food, they make it very simple: plates and silverware for four with fridge space, ice, and your own grill.
Definitely make this a place to stay when you visit Big Bear. Stay for multiple days (unlike us) because the whole experience is so positive, you may not want to leave!
Loved our cozy cabin #16. Came up for a weekend in January. Especially enjoyed the fireplace which was continually blazing during our entire stay, there was some snow on the ground and that fireplace with my cup of hot tea made my weekend. A nice supply of wood got us through the first night and the next morning and then we purchased more from the office. The heater kicked butt - it was soo toasty in the room and with the fire going, occasionally we had to open the door for a few minutes.
The beds are comfy, which was a wonderful surprise. We slept like babies, one night we slept 12 hours, which is extremely rare for us. We did bring our own pillows but the ones they supplied were great.
We used the little kitchen for coffee, hot tea, making cocktails and we put our snacks in the little fridge. The village is literally one block down the street so most of our meals were a short walk away. We enjoyed sitting outside on the little deck, even though it was a very cold weekend, we still enjoyed being able to sit outside bundled in a blanket.
Having two beds in separate rooms was great - our little dogs enjoyed sitting on the beds (they provided dog blankets to cover the bed).
The large spa was very nice, make sure you don't plan long "Hollywood Showers" and a spa soak back to back. There is plenty of hot water for one or the other, but you have to wait a couple hours for the water to heat up after filling the spa.
As many others said, I didn't want to leave. I can hardly wait to come back again - soon! This little cabin fit all our needs and couldn't have been more comfortable.
Happy Happy Happy
Friendly staff, clean rooms, rustic environment, great location! My husband and I had a really great experience. I am not giving them 5 stars only because the strong glade scented plug in scents in the cabin. Would definitely recommend this place!
Best experience ever will return plan on doing so in the spring. Very clean cabins and relaxing atmosphere. Very close to the restaurants in town and all the places to sightsee.
The owner even gave us the best times and locations to photograph the sunset. Highly recommend this place
My girlfriend, my chocolate lab, and I had an awesome time at point knot! Everyone at the office was very courteous. They put up with my girlfriend and I arguing about which DVDs to borrow. I really wanted to watch Bruce Willis kick some ass in die hard, and she probably wanted to watch twilight or something silly like that.
The cabins were clean, spacious, and was fully stocked with martinellis apple cider, pots, pans, silverware bath salts for the jacuzzi and FREE FIREWOOD! If you go when its cold outside, the fireplace will warm your cabin up real nice.
My chocolate lab also enjoyed herself in the common grassy area there as well.
If I ever find myself in big Bear again, I would definitely go back to pine knot. Thanks guys
My family had an absolute blast here, (two boys, 3 and 6). The location is walking distance into town, (1/2 a block) and the owner is the nicest guy, very passionate. We stayed in cabin 17, it was very clean, the bed was comfortable and it had everything you'd want for a mountain get-away. Overall, it's a great cabin option in the mountains for families OR singles! We will def be back!
I will never stay anywhere else!! Everything was perfect, down to the little chocolates. The cabins are clean and spacious, with everything you could possibly need for your stay. My favorite part was having a jacuzzi tub near the bed and a fire place (wood provided!!) all in the same area.
My daughter loved the play ground! She was so excited to play on the teeter totter!! She had never seen one. The best part for her was being able to feed the llamas and bunnies. After our stay we were able to purchase a llama stuffed animal to take home with us so she could remember her time there:)) she named her willow just like one there.
The little things really make a difference when you're staying at a place away from home and that's definitely something the staff strives for here. They really want to make sure you have the best experience and it shows!! Thank you so much Phillip, Larry and Stephen!! Hope to be back soon!!!
We had a really nice time. Everything was perfect. My husband and I we got in love with this place.
Time of my life! Spent Friday and Saturday in Cabin #20. Up on hill, above all the others, looking down at llamas. Private, secluded, absolutely perfect for romantic getaway. Even the large pine tree outside was lit with laser lights, which looked like it was full of fireflies. Had a fantastic time and will never stay anywhere else in Big Bear.
We took a random trip to Big Bear because it was supposed to be a crazy storm haha. Well it did snow some, but this cabin, oh gosh, I didn't want to leave! We will for sure be returning.
The check in was a BREEZE, fast and easy. The owners are the sweetest, and with a DVD player, VHS and direct tv in the room..we could borrow movies from the front desk too! Very cool, because they're free of charge, and made for good evenings once everything in town had closed up. The cabins are very well maintained, clean and so romantic for a cozy little getaway (^_^) and there is a Bunny AND a Llama farm on the property!! How cool is that?! I mean, I love bunnies, and they're just like hanging out haha! They are also very pet friendly, many of the other cabin goers also had their dogs with them too!
The cabins all have jacuzzi tubs (something we almost always look for when vacationing..), and while most cabins in Big Bear have them, we wanted a simple, quiet getaway. With your Yelp* check in, you receive two free bath salts! Yay! The jacuzzi faces the fireplace in your room, and is the PERFECT place to spend the evening relaxing before cuddling up in bed (^_^) The bed was so soft and comfy, and it had the cutest little bear and amazing little quilt comforter! It also has a kitchenette, and fridge, handy for storing left overs, alcohol, and water! There is even a doggie bowl in the kitchen! Plus, a fully stocked supply of dishes and silverware! The kitchen is large enough, and has a table and chairs, easy to do a little romantic dinner if you donr eat out. The stove and everything worked as we cooked 2 dinners in the cabin! And had to clean up after a food fight LOL! The cabins are pretty spacious, I thought, for as little as they seem to appear. It was a very nice stay, and very romantic without being overly cheesy or what not. I loved that there was a fireplace in the room, next to the jacuzzi tub, and they provide firewood too (score!). And sitting on the jacuzzi is little chocolates as well (^_^) yum. They even provide apple cider and glasses, and a few candles(FOR NO EXTRA CHARGE! YAY!) and rocking chairs! Very relaxing atmosphere from this charming little cabin. I was sad to leave. SOME of the cabins have King beds, some have Queen sized. If you or your significant other is taller, go for a cabin with a King bed, you'll enjoy your trip that much more!
I would definitely recommend Pine Knot Guest Ranch for a cute and cozy romantic weekend getaway, or even just to stay at during snow season if you want something different! Friendly, courteous owners and staff, great cabins, and a bunny farm. They are a go in my book! (^_^)
First trip to Big Bear and glad we yelp'd and found this place! Did not disappoint and will definitely come back!
Wonderful place to come to and by far one of the best cabin spots in big bear. Be sure to get cabin 19 if your a couple , I surprised my girlfriend and she was blown away and super excited. Definitely a romantic paradise. Comfortable bed. Super spacious jacuzzi. Giant 50 inch flat screen hd TV and built in aux cord in wall. So you can play music throughout the room. Definitely will be staying again !!!!
The cabins were clean and nice. Their property was beautiful and amenable to sitting around outside to chat with your neighbors - or not - as the mood struck you. Our dog had the best time playing with other guest's dogs. Wonderful location to walk or bike from. Just a relaxing, lovely time. I recommend this place to friends all the time!
Bad ass private cabin with a fireplace in Big Bear, yes please!
Wonderful, private cabin in Big Bear with parking and a private hot tub! Wood burning stove for cold nights. The cabin is rustic, but very neat and clean. Folks, it's a c a b I n. Perfect location to local shops, restaurants, the movie theater, and walking distance to the lake. Owner was friendly, efficient, and generous giving us excellent tips on restaurant options. Will most definitely make this my go-to stop in Big Bear!
My boyfriend bought me the all day package for my birthday as part of my gift and it was so amazing! Everyone was really nice and witty. Really beautiful views and just so much fun!!! I had the best time. Definitely coming back before skydiving!!!
The picture of the sign pretty much says it all. Where else can you stay for 2 nights at a pet friendly cabin with a full size jacuzzi tub in the living room for around 400 bucks? I love everything about this place and I plan to return here with my wife for many years to come.
The decor is fun, the service is outstanding, and it's Big Bear! There is a nice rock fireplace adjacent to the jacuzzi tub and a flat screen TV (with Direct TV)! They provide fire wood promptly at your request, and above the cabins there are llamas that you can feed or take for a walk if you ask the staff...I was completely surprised. I was actually checking out and mentioned how much I enjoyed feeding the llamas and the guy let me and my wife take them for a walk! How unexpected and fun!
What else can I say? You get your own parking space right in front of your cabin, unlike hotels where you have to park in a lot and walk a mile to your room! The price is incredibly reasonable for the value. The cabins are nicely maintained. There's a nice path to walk on and around with a big red barn behind it all. Everything there looks so beautiful during the sunrise!
Staying at Pine Knot puts you close to local shops and eateries. (Yelps to follow for the restaurants I visited up here) I don't see how anyone could stay here and not give these guys 5 stars! They completely deserve it. I highly recommend the Pine Knot Guest Ranch! I'm going back in December!
Unfortunately the cabin we originally booked had a broken jacuzzi.. we didn;t find out until check in time.. but THANKFULLY, they were able to move us to another cabin. We liked the vibe of the place.. loved the cabin. I'd say my only complaint was how bright it got in the morning cuz of the skylights..but that wouldn't deter me from coming back. The llamas are awesome... the distance to town is perfect. And the place was very clean and comfortable.
This place was great. Nice and quiet, private balconies, and very pet friendly-- like most of big bear as we've come to find. These cabins are about a half mile from the village which is just far enough to escape the bustling crowds but close enough to walk to all the restaurants and bars. We will definitely be coming back.
I would recommend bringing a bright flashlight if you decide to head out later in the evening. The walk to and from the cabins don't have sidewalks the entire way so having a light is helpful with both navigating the dirt sidewalks and alerting drivers to your presence!
My husband and I finally got vacation time approved for the same week (very rare). We planned our stay at Pine Knot based on the reviews. We were not disappointed. We stayed in Cabin 14 with our 3 year old daughter. I liked that parking was right in front of the cabin. The ambiance was very welcoming and relaxing. The cabin was very clean, spacious and has a kitchen full of supplies (great if you want to cook your own meals). My daughter referred to the jacuzzi tub as a swimming pool and we loved the fire place (wood is included). Thankfully, we got a bit of snow on our stay and we were able to play by the playground on site and throw snowballs. Pine knot is a short drive from they alpine slide and tubing area which we loved. Very close to the village shopping center (many stores were closed as our stay was during the week).Overall this was one of the best family vacations we have been on and highly recommend anyone looking for a relaxing getaway and breath of fresh air to stay here.
Pine Knot Ranch will be the only place we stay when we come to BIG BEAR!
Cabin 19 was fabulous. Just perfect for the two of us and our Collie/Lab pup. The cabin is equipped with a little kitchenette, jacuzzi, fireplace, huge TV, everything you need for a perfect stay in the snow.
Your cabin is detached from all the other ones. There's a huge acre for our snowdog to run around in and the llamas are frickin awesome! You're also 2 mins away from the Village and 5-10 mins away from town. So close to everything! I love it.
Thanks Larry and team for your hospitality! Can't wait to comeback in February!
I'm so sorry for not posting this sooner. The owner is ex-military. Very nice and proper he was. The cabins were kept very clean and very neat. When you arrive the cabin has a fire place with wood in it already to go. The hot tub is big that can fit 2 people in it. We rented a 2 bedroom cabin for us and our dogs!! Yes they are pet friendly.
The owner Larry, I believe that's what his name is also has a huge collection of over 100 DVDs that you can borrow. He even codes it by colors so you can find adventure, action and etc...
There is a sink and microwave. Also TV that has tons of channels including HBO. Very impressed with what we paid for and what we got. We were even given charcoal when we didn't have any to cook with on their bbq. They also gave us lighter fluid. So sweet of them!!
Thank you so much and already looking at coming back in February !!!
Staff was very attentive and friendly the cabins were very clean and inviting. A very short walk from the village.
During the summer I stayed at the cabin and this time around January 2016 I stayed at their Lakefront view Condo, its perfect for two people. Fully remodeled, clean and I can't say enough about the view. Anytime I come to Big Bear I love staying at Pine Knot Larry and anyone at the office are always so helpful with everything. If you have kids they will definitely love staying at the cabins since they have llamas and a playground. Its a safe and fun place. Thanks again Pine Knot.
Our stay here has been amazing! The kitchenette is fully equipped with everything you need, the cabin itself is spacious, and the on grounds playground and mini petting zoo is great for kids! We stayed in cabin 17 and couldn't be more happier about our night here. The property owners themselves made us feel warm and welcome, and have a huge dvd collection for movies. This will definitely be the only place we will ever stay in our visits to Big Bear.
We've stayed 3 times and love it. The location is great. The kids love the grounds as there is sledding, plenty of room to play, and of course the llamas and bunnies. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and make you feel right at home in big bear. And the owners are great and very helpful. Will be back again.
Second time staying here, first time during the winter months. Extremely friendly staff and very helpful! We will certainly be back again for round 3.
I was looking for a place to take my girlfriend snowboarding for her birthday and bring her dog. Pine Knot Ranch was a perfect fit. We stayed in Cabin 19 with a Jacuzzi tub, internet and and the tv in the cabin were nice and up to date. The bathroom and kitchen were well stocked for our stay. Multiple heating options allowed us to stay nice and cozy easily. The owners were nice and courteous and the morning we were leaving I found one of the owners tossing gravel on the ice around the car so we could get out safely. Very comforting and very affordable cabins, I will stay here any chance I get.
My boyfriend and I stayed in cabin 20, February 2016. This was the most romantic vacation. We loved sitting by the fire eating leftovers from the nearby village and playing in the snow! And the llamas. Can't forget about the rabbits and llamas. Unlike the other cabins, cabin 20 has its own private front yard away from the other guests which made our stay even more relaxing. The cabin had everything we needed; glasses, a serving dish, dish soap, a corkscrew, coffee cups, as well as wine and champaign glasses. The office staff was very friendly and helpful. We could not have asked for a better vacation! Thank you Pine Knot!
We had the pleasure of staying at here in late December 2015. We stayed in the lake view four for four, which was very nice and clean. We chose this location based on the fact that we brought our dog with us. We loved the grounds and the fact our dog could run around off leash, in addition, our daughter was able to sled on site so we didn't have to drive anywhere to enjoy the snow. Our daughter also enjoyed the llamas and rabbits.
When checking in, the owner advised that there was a leak in the cabin and there was no hot water. Unfortunately, the next day, we still didn't have hot water, and at one point did not have water at all, with the water being restored later that day but still no hot water. The very next day, we finally got hot water, but this was on the day we were departing. While this was very inconvenient, we still loved the location, the cabin and vicinity to the lake and local business that were easy to walk to. What impressed me most is the owner was very professional and offered us a credit for one night due to the issues with the water. We appreciated this and we hope to once again stay at the Pineknot, this time though with hot water.
my wife and I (and dog) stayed in cabin 14, perfect for the 3 of us. It is walking distance to downtown and a 10 min drive to Bear Mnt. We stayed mid week so there wasn't many people at the lodge but I could see where parking could be a problem. Place was clean and everything worked fine.
What a fun trip! This review is for the Grandview lodge, a vacation home that Pine Knot Guest Ranch manages.
We arrived early, and were hoping we would be able to check in since we had a child and dog that were ready to play after the 2.5 hour drive. Larry was so accommodating! He checked to make sure that the place was ready, and as luck would have it was! When I told him we would be having 2 dogs with us he gave us a sheet and blanket for each pup. How cute!
The Grandview was big and gave us plenty of room to spread out. It was great to have the small dogrun so you didn't have to bundle up to let the dog out to do his business.
The kitchen was very well equipped, except there was no cheese grater(no big deal, we just chunked it up!!) We enjoyed sitting at the big table in front of the fire, very cozy!
Plenty of outside space with a deck off the kitchen, and also the bedroom leading out to the spa. The spa could use a little TLC, it smelled kinda mildew y(maybe because of the cover which Larry told me was going to be replaced) and was also kind of slimy. Oh well, we got in anyway!
The showers had plenty of hot water, but the shower head in the master bedroom did not work too well, and was worn out. The other showers worked great.
The Grandview was very comfortable and cozy.
I would definitely recommend Pine Know Guest Ranch to anyone, and especially anyone looking for a pet friendly getaway!
We will definitely be back! hopefully we'll have some fresh snow next time!
THANKS!!
Me and my wife stayed here for her birthday weekend in March. Cabin 20 is amazing. The pictures on the website were very nice but they don't do it justice. We were very impressed. Very clean. Instantly felt like home. Steven who I think is the owner was very nice. Definitely will come back. Fireplace, jacuzzi and snow made for a perfect romantic getaway. They do supply you with a good amount of firewood and bathsalts.
No complaints, honestly. Took a friend here in December for her birthday because she always wanted to stay in a cabin with a jacuzzi. Definitely will go back next winter (not a fan of jacuzzis in the summer, haha).
The Ranch is located just a short walk up the street from the shops and restaurants....but far enough away to enjoy peace and quiet. Cabin 14 is cute and cozy. It was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay including a small kitchen, wood stove, jacuzzi tub, and a porch. Make sure you take time to walk the llamas!!! The Ranch has two very sweet llamas and rabbits to pet. We will be back and will request this cabin again.
Stayed here this past weekend and it was so beautiful! The price was good and I was WOWED just walking in. The jacuzzi was so relAxing I almost fell asleep, llamas were such a cool plus to see and great for the kids. The even have a small playground & at night time I loved how everything is lite up even on the trees, beautiful view with the stars :) it definitely looks a lot nicer in person than in the online pictures
The only thing that could of topped it off, is some complimentary slippers & a later check out.. 12pm would be better because I could enjoy my trip more! Thank you, already been recommending this place to many others! Will return Forsure
Pet friendly! We just got back from our wonderful trip. And let me just say this place was more then what we expected. Late check in was easy and easy to find our cabin. The place was beautiful and cozy, it had everything we needed and more like a small house. Our dog fit right in, as if it was home, she seemed to love it. The staff Steve was super friendly and helpful with hiking directions. So happy we found this place up in Big Bear. We will be back for sure this winter.
This is the BEST place to stay in Big Bear! My parents stay here every time they come up to visit, and every time they come to Pine Knot, they've loved it! The cabin is always clean and cozy. There's llamas and rabbits you can pet, play area for the kids, and nice benches and tables to sit and enjoy the scenery. The service is fantastic too! They are so friendly and nice! They really take good care of you. And it's really close to the Village where you can shop and eat. This is the only place my parents stay at in Big Bear :)
Our second year back for our cross country summer training camp and it was another incredible year thanks to the hospitality and amenities of Pine Knot Guest Ranch. We love that it is kid friendly and pet friendly. We love the quality of the cabins and they are incredibly well stocked. We love the friendliness of the staff, especially Larry. We will definitely continue to make this place our #1 go to place for our summer training camp. Perfect location - 1/4mi from the Village. Cannot recommend this place enough.
Stayed here for a few nights in August to get away from the heat. I can highly recommend Cabin #14 for a couple. The cabin and surrounding area was well kept. It is close to the shopping but not so close that you can hear it (about 1/4 of a mile). It was nice to simply sit on the patio and drink ice tea and the tub was wonderful for soaking tired legs and feet after a long hike in the woods. Very quiet there after dark. Will return next summer.
First timers and loved it! Quiet, hidden, private - a jewel. I almost didn't want to give a review so the word doesn't get out about the place, but the owners deserve a good one. They were great, helpful, responsive. Not that it mattered, but were told room bedroom had wall A/C. Was only unit that didn't, but it worked out because we brought our own fan. Will definitely be back.
Great little cabin.. Friendly staff.. Very nice and clean. We didn't get to walk the lamas but hopefully we will next time. I definitely recommend this place to anyone.
This is the treasure jewels thats so close to the village, shop, visitor center n restaurants. We stay here for 2 nights. I love their small touch like chocolates on top of Jacuzzi, blanket for dog, little tour guild book for nearby pet friendly restaurant etc. We stay in cabin #17. Grill is on the side of house. Front patio only. Surprisely clean n neat.
The only complaint is there are three controller for tv. We cant figures it out how to watch dvd borrow from the owner. So, we use our own computer instead.
Otherwise, we love this place. Will recommend to anyone. N will come back again.
My dog Zulu and I stayed here in September by ourselves for 2 nights in Cabin #19.
I loved staying here! Even though we were by ourselves, I felt safe. Cabin 19 is close to the back of the lot, the kitchen is on the first floor and the jacuzzi, fire place, and bed are in a small basement like area, making the place seem more homey and roomy. They provide you with your first bundle of firewood for free too! Also had a free bottle of sparkling cider and some chocolates. They also provide you with a dog bowl for food and water in case you forget yours.
Checking in was very easy, and the people (and their sheltie) were very nice. There are also llamas and bunnies on the property.
Night time can be a little spooky as there is not much lighting around the area, each cabin has xmas lights strung across the roof but after that it gets so dark you can't see the paths anymore. I would definitely bring a flashlight if you have a dog who's last potty break is at night. The flip side though is that its so dark here, you can see the stars!
Overall, very dog friendly, very affordable, would definitely come back again. (Also within very close walking distance to Big Bear Lake Village).
Wonderful! This place is especially good if you have young kids as they have a great playground and the llamas are a huge hit. The cabins are cozy and comfortable. The staff was extremely nice and accommodating to our needs. We are definitely coming back.
My wife and I stayed 2 nights ago here. Larry the owner is a fellow Vet. This place was perfect. Fireplace, Jacuzzi, kind hospitality. Very Easy stroll to Big Bear Village shops.
The price was right & the peace priceless.
Blessings on you all who get a chance to visit.
As other people described very cute and cozy place with 2 adorable Llamas and bunnies. We stayed at cabin #15 and we loved it! Jacuzzi, fireplace, Christmas lights and moonroof ceiling so you can see stars from your bed! I would definitely come back!
such a cute cabin! stayed in 19 with 3 of my girl friends for a little get away snow trip. plenty of room and comfy beds. the fireplace with free firewood supply is great! we all got in bathing suits and enjoyed the spa tub with bath salts while watching a movie. the snow was extremely high and we weren't too prepared but we did make our way out to the barn to see the llamas!
This has been the best stay ever! Really good people who run the establishment as well as perfect location right near town. Thank you Pine Knot Guest Ranch!
We very much enjoyed our stay here! I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the cottage, bigger than I expected. I also loved how pet friendly it was. The only thing that could be better was the jacuzzi tub. I'm sure it could be difficult to clean the inside of the tub jets. We filled the tub passed the jets, and when we turned them on brown chunks of scum or build up came out. Needless to say we stayed away from that, but everything else was great. We will surely be back.
We are in LOVE with this place. Will definitely come back with our extended family.
The cabin is clean, warm and spacious. It has all the essentials and more. Plates and cups, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, forks, spoons, bottle opener, bath salts, clean towels, etc.
staff is really friendly and they care about you. They have cute llamas named Dolly and Willow and 2 bunnies. It is walking distance from the village's restaurants and stores.
We don't want to leave!!!
I think minimum stay is 2 nights (not sure please call them to confirm) we were getting 2 nights anyway but I read other comment of someone complaining about not knowing but most places here are a 2 night stay minimum. Anyway you won't want to leave!
Great price compared to nearby locations. I rented a cabin with a jacuzzi, fireplace and great view. Really nice people.
Pine Knot Guest Ranch is a cute cabin rental accommodation a block away from Big Bear Village on Pine Knot Avenue. We have stayed here various times over the years and enjoyed every stay in their cute little cabins. Cabin 17 is our favorite. We have also stayed in cabin 18 over Thanksgiving one year. The cabins have a main room and a back room with a full bed, a small table and chairs and includes a kitchenette with microwave, fridge, and coffee maker. The bathroom is tucked in a corner and has double doors so you can pass though back into the main room that has a huge Jacuzzi tub, fireplace and king sized bed. The room sleeps 4. Our family of 5 has outgrown these rooms so we haven't been back in a while but every time we are in Big Bear, we visit the grounds and pet the animals in the barn.
My kids can live in the barn for hours petting the bunnies. The bunnies are new in the barn and are so sweet. One of the bunnies will let you hold and pet her as long as you want. I don't know what happened to Marshmallow and the other bunny that was there a year or so ago but when we were last there, the guests who were not careful to close the bunny cage and the bunnies got out a few times. I hope that the guests are careful to not let these new bunnies out.
They also have a playground for the kids. Over the years we have seen this property change for the better but now it is not looking so great. The playground was redone when the ownership changed a few years ago. Last time we visited last month in March, 2017, the playground was trashed. It was after the snow had mostly melted, the ground was full of wet mud and the playground equipment looked unsafe. We saw a broken metal see saw and various sharp broken items near the fire pit.
Overall we love the Pine Knot Guest Ranch and have many happy memories of our visits and the one year we celebrated Thanksgiving there. It is conveniently located within walking distance to many fun things to do too.
Our stay last wekend was great. The cabin was very clean and welcoming. I would definitely come back and stay and totally recommended this place to others. Its also just walk down to the downtown area. w plenty of shops and bars. Fyi, bring cash as the bar w pool tables is cash only.
This is my 2nd stay here and I love it even more than the first time. The first cabin I stayed in was #18 which is front and center when you first drive in....no privacy.
Cabin 14 is tucked away in the corner and has a driveway, patio in front and back (with furniture and nestled In the trees), jacuzzi tub in the living room, king size bed with luxurious linens, wood fireplace, kitchenette with microwave, coffee maker, toaster and full size fridge/freezer. If you're in a budget, come during the week when the prices are $99 and stock up the fridge with food and drinks. The Bear Creek Village is about a 7 minute walk. Lots of restaurants, gift shops, coffee houses, and even a small movie theater. If you have kids, bring them! This is definitely a family place. I heard there's a small petting zoo on site with llamas and rabbits but I haven't seen it myself. There's also a water slide park about a mile away and the lake area has lots to see and do.
The best part is it's only a 2.5 hour drive from L.A (on Friday or Sat it'll take closer to 3 hours with traffic).
Update 05/21/17 - I rented a vacation home called Little Bear and it was AMAZING! It was off site but still within a 5-10 minute walk to the village. It had a hot tub on the back patio and a wood fireplace in the living room. There was 2 queen beds - 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs. The upstairs was a loft style and also had a double and twin bed, tv, air conditioner, and balcony. It was like a sauna upstairs when we first arrived but it cooled off once we opened the windows.
The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. We ended up cooking our meals and enjoyed quiet evenings with soaking in the hot tub. A few notes: the wifi didn't work until I rebooted the router, the DVD player wouldn't play our DVDs for some reason but there were plenty of movie channels available on the tv, wasn't able to get the fireplace started with just the wood. Next time I'll bring a duraflame log. There's only 1 bathroom and it's downstairs in the bedroom...kinda inconvenient to get to if someone is sleeping in that bedroom.
Parking for 2 cars.
Awesome stay!
5m from Shops and food in The Village.
Clean rooms, comfy beds, fun play area, neat llamas and bunnies, and a Jacuzzi Tub!
Chari was super nice
Will be back!
We took our family during the week and had such an awesome time! Larry the owner/manager made us feel at home and we are so glad we now have a place to go to when we visit! The cabin was really cozy and the queen beds were very comfy. The village was so close you could just walk. Great place to stay!
We just spent 3 enjoyable days in a cabin here. Our cabin had a spa, fireplace, kitchenette with microwave and fridge, 2 comfortable beds, 2 Tv's, Wi-Fi, DVD player, and more. There was mountain decor, oil paintings, even fresh flowers, Martinellis and chocolate. Outside we had a picnic table, barbecue, chairs and more. Llamas and a rabbit in the barn were fun too. Just 2 long blocks to walk to downtown Village shopping, entertainment, and restaurants. There is also a playground for kids, and they are pet-friendly too!
Great place to stay. My wife wanted a weekend get away for us and 4 Month old son. Called around and found this family owned location. Super pleasant people. We were coming up super late so we called, worried we my lose our cabin. They were understanding and told us not to worry, they would turn on heater for us and keys would be in cabin, that we could do the paperwork in the morning. Great place. Very quiet and tucked in but very close to the Village. We had a 1 room cabin with a full kitchen, fire place, one king bed, a pull out love seat and rocking chair. Loved it and we definitely will be back. We are telling all our friends and family about this great place.
Nice cozy place to stay, tucked away in a quiet area, but within walking distance to the Village center. The cabin had a rustic feel to it and the space was just right for my family of 5 (2 kids + 1 toddler). It was equipped with the things we need like the microwave, plates, paper towels, refrigerator, etc. We brought goodies from Trader Joe's and was able to prepare and enjoy meals from the cabin. The staff was very courteous and helpful. My kids loved the llama experience most and the jacuzzi in the living room. A+ experience and would stay here again.
We Stayed Here last weekend and it was awesome! Theres a playground for the kids to play little Hill for them to sled down and very nicely kept area. And everyone here was so friendly!
Great place to stay! Clean quiet! Larry the owner was super nice. The llamas Willow and Chewy were a hit with my daughters ! Will defiantly be coming back here for another stay!
Stayed at Lake view for 4 cabin. It was very clean and the managers were very responsive to our needs. The view was great! The kitchen had what we needed and we liked the open space that we adapted to work for us and our two kids. It was simple, but it had all we needed and did not feel like we were missing anything. It is a very easy walk down the hill into town, which is awesome! My only recommendation: It's time for new carpet! We will definitely stay here again if we return.
I stayed there last week and it was wonderful. Very comfy bed and friendly staff. Loved the llamas as well.
This was a great place. We were only here one night, but it had everything you could want. Nice and clean with a fireplace and wood, movies, and a little kitchen. Cute decor. Easy walk to restaurants and shops. We had a great dinner at the Himilayan restaurant. The people were extremely nice when I made the reservation and when we checked in and checked out. Really couldn't ask for more. My son really enjoyed feeding the llamas. (I did too!)
Super warm and friendly staff. Great place for couples with pets and kids. Cabin 17 had a large comfy bed and was very clean. Great location to restaurants and shopping. Liked it!
Spent two nights here President's Day Weekend with my wife and daughter and son-in-law and grandkids. Staff was very nice, friendly, and helpful! Cabin was next door to the office and was clean, roomy and well equipped. Everything worked well! Parking was convenient. The furnace was especially good as we had snowfall and both nights got below 20 degrees but the cabin stayed very warm. I would recommend staying her to everyone as they have many cabins and it is within walking distance to the village for shopping and restaurants.

Super cute, romantic, pet friendly and close to town. We will definitely stay here again. A prefect getaway, you feel secluded but you're not far from town. We had a partial view of the lake & there's llamas too. Loved hanging in the 2 person jacuzzi in the middle of the room with the fire place going.
My family and I stayed in Cabin 18 and it was amazing experience. The whole family definitely enjoyed the stay. The overall experience was perfect. What we enjoyed: parking lot, cabin decorations, all kitchen essentials, jacuzzi tub, firewood and fireplace, extremely comfortable bed, efficient water beyond the rest. Family voted that the next stay will be back at Pine Knot Guest Ranch.
Stayed here during the weekday for a quick getaway. We were honestly surprised as to how complete our cabin was. 2 spacious rooms, roaring fireplace and huge jacuzzi. A bottle of cider and two flutes with chocolates welcomed us at the entrance. Very detailed, clean, and roomy. Great for a romantic stay. Llamas were a plus!
This place is perfect!!! My son and I stayed here for a few weeks and loved it! Let me first say the folks in the office are great, friendly, helpful. But the other thing that was a huge plus for me is how clean the cabins were, and that includes not seeing one bug which is a breath of fresh air when we have in the past stayed in places where the ants sort of took over the place. Clean, quiet, friendly, and the perfect location! A few minute walk and we were right in the Village! Highly recommend and will be back ourselves very soon!
Spent three nights at the little ranch. It was a wonderful experience. The staff was very sweet and accommodating and the cabins were very cozy. I was allowed an early check in and was accommodated with no wait time when moving to another cabin. When I requested to stay another night, my current cabin was booked for that day, but I was conveniently moved to another cabin with a lake view with no hassle.
There was a lot of room for my dog to play ball and the llamas were very cute.
You feel in a rustic area with beautiful trees and wilderness, but walking distance to the village. Loved the stay, will return.
